Chris Anagnostopoulos, PhD
SVP, Chief Causal AI Officer
Chris serves as Chief Causal AI Officer at Valo, where he leads the development and application of causal AI to advance drug discovery. He brings a rare, interdisciplinary background spanning statistics, artificial intelligence, life sciences, and the technology sector.
Chris was a tech fellow Partner at QuantumBlack, AI by McKinsey, where he served as director of life sciences innovation, pushing the frontier of AI, causal inference and ML to advance drug discovery and development. Earlier in his career, he was Founder and CEO of an AI consultancy and Director of R&D at a London‑based technology company where he led teams building next‑generation programming languages for AI.
Chris received an undergraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge, an MSc in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Edinburgh, and a PhD in Statistical Machine Learning from Imperial College London. He held a prestigious research fellowship at the Statistical Laboratory at the University of Cambridge before becoming a tenured member of faculty at Imperial College London, where he continues to hold an honorary Associate Professorship. He is a Chartered Statistician (C.Stat) of the Royal Statistical Society and has authored multiple technical publications in leading peer‑reviewed journals.
